Minnesota cowboy Tanner Aus was victorious in the second round of bareback riding at the Wrangler NFR thanks to his 87-point ride on Wilson Sanchez of Hi Lo Pro Rodeo.

The Go-Round win brought him up to fourth in the world standings, about $50,000 behind No. 1 Tim O’Connell and through two rounds, he’s also sharing second in the average with Round One winner Richmond Champion.

Aus knew he had quite possibly the best draw of the Go-Round as Wilson Sanchez was ridden twice for scores of more than 87 points at the 2019 Wrangler NFR.

“That is a great big scary looking bay horse and he is great shape and he had a good trip,” Aus said.

Aus jumped over several cowboys in the standings, but did not make up significant ground on O’Connell and No. 2 Kaycee Feild as those two past World Champions were both 86.5 to split second. NFR rookie Leighton Berry also turned in an 86.5-point ride.

“I’m happy that it’s early in the week that I got a Go-Round buckle and now it’s just stay focused,” he said. “Anything can happen......I’m just trying to do what got me here.”
