Bareback Rider Jess Pope Talks Riggin Mishap in Weatherford

Reigning World Champion Jess Pope had an outstanding matchup for Performance 2 of the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Frontier Days and Rodeo when he drew National Finals bucking horse, Redzilla, of Pete Carr Pro Rodeo.

His night ended quickly when Redzilla smashed his riggin in the bucking chutes.

“She was just a little amped up and I went to crawl on, I was finishing tapping my glove on and she flipped over and smashed my riggin and broke all the rawhide apart. So it’s completely unrideable then. It’s just part of rodeo, that stuff happens. It’s kind of an uncontrollable situation,” he said.

Fellow bareback riders brought over riggins but nothing fit and the plan became to get a new one from Barstow.

Pope heads to Coleman, Texas hopefully with a brand new riggin as he found nothing but positives in Weatherford.
