Shad Mayfield Rises to the Top on Showdown Sunday to Win the Calgary Stampede

Shad Mayfield adds another Calgary Stampede title to his family name.

It has been 40 years since a Mayfield stepped foot onto the stage as a Calgary Stampede Champion. Sylvester Mayfield won it in 1985, and this year, Shad Mayfield kept the tradition of winning the greatest outdoor show on Earth going.

“It’s so amazing. This is the best rodeo in the world, and I’ve always wanted to win this rodeo, follow in my dad’s footsteps. He won it in 1985, so it’s awesome you know,” Mayfield said.

Aboard Peso, the phenomenal tie-down roping horse owned by Canada’s own Logan Bird, Mayfield clocked a 7.0 in the Semifinals before besting that by two tenths of a second in the 3-Man Round to win it all.

Mayfield now sits No. 1 in the World, overtaking Riley Webb by just $2,000. The Summer Run continues with California Rodeo Salinas and Cheyenne Frontier Days up next.
