Sage Kimzey is the No. 3 bull rider in the world and he recently announced that he will be taking off the remainder of the regular season to heal after a much needed shoulder surgery. This break could not have come at a better time for Kimzey has he welcomed his baby boy earlier this year.

“Having a family is definitely something that’s all new to me, for sure. I mean, I grew up wanting to be a World Champion bull rider and that was kind of my only thought, right,” Kimzey said.

After marrying his wife Alexis in 2020, Kimzey left for the summer run. He got multiple texts in a row from Alexis and little did he know the news she had. At a gas station in Riverton, Wyoming, Kimzey found out he was going to be a dad.

With an original due date of early March, Kimzey planned his rodeo schedule accordingly but an unexpected whirlwind started at the end of January. Steele Kimzey made his appearance on January 25.

“He came out a little stud from day one… he was seven weeks early. It’s been a lot of work but it’s been a lot of fun. It’s all good now, mom and baby are both doing well,” Kimzey said.

Kimzey said that having Steele has put everything into perspective for him and he now understands why he has done everything that he did and he can feel the direct impact that it has.

"At the end of the day, the legacy you leave in the rodeo world, it's one that will be forgotten at some point," Kimzey said. "Looking into my son's eyes...You understand why you did everything that you did."
