Every year, Greeley serves as a launching point into the Fourth of July run as champion cowboys earned between $7,000 and $14,000 this year.

The 100th edition of the Greeley Stampede was a two-header in the roughstock events and a three-header in the timed events.

The story of the bareback riding was the permit holders. Collegiate cowboy Dean Thompson and 19-year-old standout Keenan Hayes split the win with 171 points on two head. Anthony Thomas came in a half-point behind the tandem and Tim O’Connell, who won the Short Round with 88.5 points, was fourth overall.

In steer wrestling, it was another permit holder, Cash Robb, who took the title. The 19-year-old was 3.9 seconds to win the Short Round and 4.1 in Round 2.

NFR Average winners Andrew Ward/Buddy Hawkins won the team roping by three-tenths of a second over Garrett Rogers/Justin Davis. Ward/Hawkins won two of the three rounds, including the Short Round to bring in more than $10,000 apiece.

Hardy Braden won the saddle bronc riding with an 89.5 point ride on Killer Bee, a horse he’d been waiting 10 years for a rematch with. Braden was 175 points on two to win the rodeo by 4.5 points. Wyatt Casper, the No. 4 man in the world, was second.

In tie-down roping, Shad Mayfield moved closer to the No. 1 spot in the world by claiming his second consecutive title in Greeley. He was 7.8 seconds in the Short Round and is now the world No. 2, within $6,000 of John Douch.

Shelley Morgan and Kiss impressed in the barrel racing by finishing second in Round 2 and first in the Short Round. Morgan defeated Lisa Lockhart, who won Round 2 and was third in the Short Round, by a narrow margin of four hundredths of a second.

Lastly, Chance Schott was the only cowboy to cover both of his bulls and he was marked at 84.5 and 88 on those two rides.
