Team Roper Rylie Smith discusses WCRA World Championship on WSR

The Women’s Rodeo World Championship came to an end in conjunction with the PBR World Finals at AT&T Stadium. Over the course of the event, $750,000 was paid out to barrel racers, breakaway ropers and team ropers around the country.

This year, in the Team Roping, 19-year-old Rylie Smith and her partner Hope Thompson switched roles. Typically, Thompson heels and Smith heads, but it was reversed at the World Championship.

It worked out well for the pair as they turned in a run of 13.66 seconds in Championship Round to win the Women’s Team Roping World Championship and $90,000 apiece.

“I don’t think it’s really hit me yet,” she said. “I’m going to save it (the money), and it’ll help me keep going down the road.”
