Santa Maria’s Julie McGuire Talks Golden Circle of Champions and More for the 79th Santa Maria Elks Rodeo

Santa Maria, California is about to hold the 79th Santa Maria Elks Rodeo starting on Thursday, June 2 and goes through June 5 at the Elks Unocal Event Center.

Johnna McGuire is the media director for the Santa Maria Rodeo and with the ocean near by and the rolling hills she says they are blessed with the location.

The Santa Maria Elks Rodeo is also tied to the Golden Circle of Champions, a children’s cancer awareness program that they started.

“We really are proud. We started it here in 2016 and opening night of rodeo is our Golden Circle of Champions night,” McGuire said.

They bring in 25 local families to honor with a banquet dinner that gives the children and their families a chance to meet the cowboys and cowgirls competing before they have fundraisers that last all through the weekend.

One more thing that Santa Maria Elks Rodeo takes pride in is their Rodeo Queens. Over the years, the Santa Maria Elks Rodeo Queens have raised over $15 million that goes to support multiple charities and organizations for children. This year’s candidates have been working hard over the last six weeks and a new Queen will be crowned this week.

With a camp for kids and a concert each night, the 79th Santa Maria Elks Rodeo will be a place that all families near Santa Maria should attend. Bob Tallman, Wayne Brooks and Anthony Lucia along with Matt Merritt will be your in arena announcers and entertainment. It all starts on June 2 and you can catch the action on The Cowboy Channel.
