The sport of rodeo has changed a little since World Champion Paul Tierney was entered. The livestock is different, the travel is different but if you ask Tierney, thirty years ago, rodeos were a real cowboy affair.
“I never thought nothing of big calves, big steers, huge conditions…this is what we’re going to compete under and someone’s going to win and it could be me” he said.
He attributes his career longevity to truly enjoying what he was doing and the horses he did it on. To this day, Tierney works during the day and around 5:30, he gathers horses and ropes until dark.
Looking back, Tierney wants to inspire others the way that he was inspired. This sport is his passion and he says he has enjoyed everyday of his life so far.
