Wednesday night was the final performance before the Short Go at the Greeley Stampede and Shane O’Connell made an 85-point ride that put him in No. 2 in the Round on Nutrena’s Rustler of Beutler & Son Rodeo.
“They win a lot of money on that horse so when I seen him next to my name I knew we were going to get a chunk of it if I did my job,” he said.
O’Connell said that Nutena’s Rustler made a different trip than he has seen him make before when the horse turned back and it all came down to muscle memory.
“We train ourselves to go off our muscle memory so a lot of days we’ll be sore and tired and may not even want to be there but we let our muscle memory take over,” O’Connell said.
Greeley is won on an average and in the rough stock, that average is two head. Twelve cowboys will come back to the Short Go along with O’Connell and among them is Dean Thompson, Tilden Hooper, and Jess Pope.
