RodeoHouston completely reshaped the PRCA World Standings over the weekend with the champions taking home the biggest prize in a PRCA rodeo so far this season, $50,000 each. And following Saturday’s action, every athlete who won Houston now sits No. 1 in the world in their event.

In bareback riding, two-time NFR Average champion Jess Pope continued to show up in the biggest moments. He won the Wild Card, Championship Round and Championship Shootout with three straight rides of 88 or more points to close out the rodeo.

Steer wrestling was won by Hunter Cure, who made $57,000 at the event, which was enough to move him to No. 1 despite entering Houston with about $4,000 won for the season.

In team roping, Clay Tryan/Jake Long won the Championship Round and Championship Shootout on Saturday with times of 5.1 and 6.4 seconds respectively.

Saddle bronc riding saw Sage Newman pick up the biggest win of his career with an impressive 93 point ride on Pete Carr’s Billie. Newman made his first NFR last year with around $83,000. This year, he has already topped $87,000 thanks to his at RodeoHouston.

Like Tryan/Long in team roping, John Douch also swept both rounds on Championship Saturday. He was 7.7 seconds twice to win RodeoHouston for the first time in his career. Douch was coincidentally wearing No. 77 as his back number as well.

In bull riding and barrel racing, Stetson Wright and Jordon Briggs continued dream seasons. Wright was 93 points on Yellowstone to clear the $100,000 mark for the season in the PRCA Bull Riding World Standings. Wright is also No. 2 in saddle bronc riding after winning Fort Worth and San Antonio earlier this year. Briggs, the reigning World Champion, also won San Antonio and on Saturday, she added a Houston buckle to her collection after finishing the rodeo with a 14.33 second run, the fastest of the entire rodeo.

In breakaway roping, Erin Johnson stopped the clock at 2.7 seconds to get the win. Johnson entered the rodeo No. 3 in the WPRA World Standings.

In total, the rodeo paid out nearly $1.8 million.
