Sikeston Arena Director Justin Wibbenmeyer joins WSR to discuss this past week’s conditions

Sikeston was hit with several inches of rain during the week of the rodeo, but thanks to a regraded arena and a lot of favors and prayers, the rodeo was still a success.

According to Arena Director Justin Wibbenmeyer, local city workers and the fire department helped clean the drains on to get ready for the rodeo on Friday night after heavy rains Thursday night and Friday afternoon.

After Friday’s muddy performance went off without a hitch, Wibbenmeyer and Co. had to get the arena, which was filled with mud, slop and standing water, ready for the final perf on Saturday.

“We started at 9 o’clock that morning on Saturday and we worked for a couple hours and then we decided to just let the sun beat down on it for a few hours and then about 2 o’clock that afternoon we went to work........The next thing I knew, it looked better than ever.”
