Sage Kimzey Looks Back on His 2022 Year

Sage Kimzey made it known early on that he was gunning for a history making, record breaking career in professional bull riding. His goal was to win nine Gold Buckles and break the long standing record of the legendary Donnie Gay. Kimzey came close and the 2022 National Finals would have been the year that he could have possibly tied Gay’s record.

During what was arguably the best season of Kimzey’s career, he tore his shoulder for the second time and ultimately decided to have the surgery to repair the injury. This required he take some time off, which fell right in line with the timeline of the birth of his new baby boy, Steele.

“Honestly, I haven’t missed it at all because I’ve been getting to spend time with Alexis and Steele at home and it’s been honestly, probably one of my favorite years I’ve had of my life. Obviously I love the sport of bull riding and I can’t wait to get back out there competing but at the end of the day there was such finality with me having my shoulder fixed,” Kimzey said.

Kimzey ended the 2022 season ranked No. 8 in the World after only attending 11 rodeos.
