NFR Round 9: Dawson Hay Sends Killer Bee Off in Style, Hailey Kinsel Makes a Clutch Run and More

BY BRETT NIERENGARTEN @PRORODEOBRETT

Dawson Hay and the legendary Killer Bee matched up Friday night at the NFR and gave the fans a show on the legendary horse’s final out.

Hay was marked 92 points, tying the round record, and was greeted by perhaps the biggest applause of the entire National Finals Rodeo.

“Some horses stick out that you just really want to get on one day, since I started riding broncs, I’ve looked up to anyone who stuck that sucker (Killer Bee),” he said. “I still don’t really remember much of the whole ride.

Speaking of things fans loved Friday night, Hailey Kinsel turned in the fastest time of the rodeo with a 13.34-second run to win Round 9 and set herself up for a Round 10 where either she or reigning World Champion Jordon Briggs will leave with the Gold Buckle.

“I feel like we’re in the middle of the best field of horses, the competitors are great, the horses are amazing,” Kinsel said. “I’m not one to pay attention to results a lot and if I did, I probably would be doing the same thing, which is go fast and see if we can win another round.”
