Bareback Rider Garrett Shadbolt Captures National Western Championship with Electric Ride

Garrett Shadbolt has made it through to the Final Round at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo three times in his career and this time, he left the champion.

With an 89.5-point ride on the Cervi Brothers’ On Second Thought, Shadbolt shot to the top of the leaderboard.

“Oh man, when he made that right turn he put a lot of power into that riggin and I was trying to keep ahold of my feet. I moved a little bit but, man, he was putting a lot of power on those couple of moves there and then when he straightened out he kept bucking,” Shadbolt said.

Shadbolt added over $8,500 to his season earnings from the National Western and now sits No. 2 in the World Standings with just under $1,000 between him and the No. 1 spot.

Waylon Bourgeois was 88 to take second and Taylor Broussard and Richmond Champion tied for third with 86.5 apiece.
