Back When They Bucked: Bareback and Steer Wrestling Highlights

The rain was coming down in Deadwood, South Dakota for this year’s Back When They Bucked. It is a fundraising event presented by the Western Legacy Foundation that includes bareback riding, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding and breakaway roping.

In the bareback riding, it was Tanner Aus and Donny Proffit who split the title after making a pair of 88.5-point rides to bring in almost $2,000 each. Wyatt Denny was third while Canadian Orin Larsen was fourth.

“You don’t realty know what to expect when it’s raining and muddy like this but horses that are that good, they pretty much show up and perform just like we train ourselves to do and like to believe we can do in any conditions. They are the same way so it was an awesome trip and fun trip in the mud,” Aus said.

In the steer wrestling, your champion came out of an average and it was Dirk Tavenner with 9.0 on two head who took home the win. Ty Erickson was second followed by Gage Hesse.
