Emily Beisel’s horse Chongo is known for loving big, open pens like Calgary and in the pair’s first run at The Stampede since 2019, they won the round.
Beisel stopped the clock at 17.62 seconds to edge out fellow Okie Dona Kay Rule by less than one tenth of a second.
“He (Chongo) kind of tried to take the bit from me a little early and I was just like ‘nope, you gotta come back to me, we gotta be smart about this run,’ we had a ton of rain yesterday, I knew I needed him in my hands,” Beisel said.
Each cowgirl in Pool A will compete three more times with with the Top 4 based on money earned automatically advancing to Championship Sunday. You can watch every performance of The Calgary Stampede on The Cowboy Channel and PRCA on Cowboy Channel+.
