Just like they do for the seven other events in rodeo, RodeoHouston gave out $50,000 to the champion of the breakaway roping in 2022 and Erin Johnson was the one to put her name in the history books.
“I can’t even describe what it means (to be the first breakaway champion), this is the most awesome thing I’ve ever been a part of, this is the most awesome rodeo I’ve ever been at,” Johnson said.
Johnson bested Laramie Johnson, Amanda Coleman and JJ Hampton in the Shootout.
