Josh Frost last competed at the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo on Jan. 14, but so far, no one has been able to best the aggregate score of 165.5 on two he set in the first two performances.
Frost was part of the first crop of cowboys competing in Denver, kicking things off with 84 points on Big Rafter Rodeo’s Line Drive in Round 1 on Thursday night.
“Just had to keep scrapping,” he said afterward. “I’ve seen that bull a bunch, they don’t ride him very often.”
Frost added he is confident coming into 2022 after winning the Average at the NFR and finishing second in the world. That confidence has show as he has ridden 11 straight bulls dating back to Round 5 in Las Vegas.
Frost is one of two cowboys to ride two so far in Denver. The others are Tyler Bingham (161.5) and Clayton Savage (159.5).
Other leaders in the Average at the National Western heading into the Tuesday, Jan. 18 performance are Cole Franks in the bareback riding, Don Payne in steer wrestling, Dustin Egusquiza/Travis Graves in team roping, CoBurn Bradshaw in saddle bronc riding, Haven Meged in tie-down roping and Shannon McReynolds in barrel racing.
