Shannon McReynolds Leads Average at NWSS After Putting Together Fastest Time of Rodeo

Barrel racer Shannon McReynolds is making the most of her first year competing at the National Western in Denver.

In her first run at the big indoor rodeo on Saturday afternoon, she was 14.72 seconds, blowing away the rest of the field for the fastest time of the rodeo.

McReynolds has had her mount since the horse was a yearling.

“She’s been the laziest horse at my place,” McReynolds said with a laugh. “But she’s always been easy and she’s always been a nice mare.”

McReynolds came back Saturday night and was clocked at 15.18 seconds to to make her the only cowgirl with an aggregate time under 30 seconds.

McReynolds, who is a full-time nurse, mainly rodeos in the Turquoise Circuit, but she’s off to a good start overall in 2022. In addition to winning two rounds at the Turquoise Circuit Finals, she also finished second at the Sandhills Stock Show and Rodeo in Odessa to win almost $4,000.
