Dean Thompson Wins Bareback Riding Long Go at Greeley Stampede

Dean Thompson matched up with Rocky Mountain Rodeo’s Cracked Pepper and the Utah cowboy made a ride straight to the top.

The two ended up being 86.5 points to take the lead at the Greeley Stampede on Monday night and it held up through two more performances to get him the win in the Long Round.

“Yeah when I saw I had that horse drawn I was pretty excited. I remember you guys talking about that horse last year, about how they called her treacherous or how bad she could be, almost a full 180 every other jump but when I saw I had her drawn here I couldn’t help but be excited,” he said.

Thompson punched his ticket to the Short Go and is riding a wave of confidence right now after conquering a horse like Cracked Pepper.

“I’m confident about it. Coming off the college finals, I was lucky enough there to get on three, four horses that were just really outstanding, enough to build a guys confidence and make them feel like they’re riding perfect,” he said.

Shane O’Connell was second in the Long Round with an 85 and Tilden Hooper was third at 84.5.
