It was one month ago when team roper Clay Smith broke his leg while roping with Jake Long. Now, they are your Dodge City Roundup Champions. They were a 4.9 in the first round, didn’t get any money in Round 2 but they came back in the Short Round to be victorious.
“The most important thing was Jesus Christ, I give all the glory to him, it’s unbelievable. It’s unbelievable what he can do for you, it’s unreal. I’m real thankful. I’ve had so many people helping me get back going. It’s a real humbling deal, really,” Smith said.

It was an emotional week for the team ropers and getting the win added to it.
“I knew that if we just made a good run we had a good chance of winning it and I’ve wanted to win this rodeo my whole life. I grew up not too far from here. I told Clay I really hadn’t been nervous in a while, I hadn’t felt those emotions so it was pretty neat to feel that,” Long said.
An exciting comeback week for the team ended with a Dodge City Roundup Championship.
