On Saturday night, Wenda Johnson stopped the clock at 16.08 seconds to break her own arena record and win the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.
Johnson set the previous mark, 16.17 seconds, just days prior.
“It was exciting to get to run (her horse Mac) here. The owners that have these horses, this is where it started for them. They watched this rodeo and said ‘my horse can be a barrel horse,’” Johnson said. "(This last run) was smooth and easy.”
The arena record coming into the 2022 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo was 16.30 seconds, set by Hailey Kinsel in 2020. This year, That mark was bested nine times by four different cowgirls, including Kinsel herself.
Johnson won $20,000 for her first place finish in the Finals and finished the rodeo with $24,250 total. The last two World Champions finished second and third in the Finals. Kinsel was in at 16.24 and Jordon Briggs ran a 16.30. Ivy Saebens finished fourth with a 16.38 to earn $4,000.
