Jess Lockwood, the PBR World Champion in 2017 and 2019, may have a broken jaw after taking a horn to the chin from Detroit Lean while getting bucked off on Saturday in Ocala, Florida.
Lockwood told PBR insider Justin Felisko that he believes his jaw is indeed broken and says he plans to have surgery if it’s required.
“If it feels fine, I believe I can come back riding and go from there. If I think I need a couple of weeks off, then I will give myself a couple of weeks,” he said. “It will just depend on how I feel. We will figure out what it will require.”
Lockwood has missed 37 events in his career since turning pro in 2016, but Felisko told Janie Johnson that Lockwood is terrific at listening to his body and handling injury.
Lockwood visited with Dr. Tandy Freeman on Monday.
Jose Vitor Leme, the 2020 World Champion, was also injured over the weekend.
