There was some unfortunate news in the bull riding over the weekend as two cowboys inside the Top 15 will miss the rest of the 2021 season.
The $7 million cowboy, JB Mauney, was hospitalized on Sept. 9 with a lacerated kidney and the rest of his season is currently up in the air. The injury occurred during his 90-point ride in Fort Madison, Iowa.
“I didn’t make a very good dismount and I ended up landing right in front of him,” Mauney told ProRodeo.com. “He stepped on me right underneath my vest at my beltline, but I got up and walked out of the arena. I was fine until about 2 or 3 in the morning on Friday then decided I should probably get checked out. It ended up being a lacerated kidney.”
Mauney said the NFR, which is Dec. 2-11, is still a ways out, so his goal is to try and be healthy by then. Mauney is No. 7 with $109,382.
Laramie Mosley, who was looking at going to his first ever Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, broke the lower part of his neck at his C7 vertebrae. He is out for the rest of the season and there is still a possibility for the NFR, however he no longer controls his own fate.
Mosley is expected to be out four to six weeks and currently sits No. 13 in the PRCA Bull Riding World Standings with $83,456.
