Clay Tryan and Jade Corkill are your Timed Events athletes of the Week after sweeping all three rounds they competed in at Cheyenne Frontier Days.
The two got things going in the sixth performance where they stopped the clock at 7.9 seconds, which up until that point was the fastest time of the rodeo. That opening round win won them $2,000 each and pushed them through to the Semifinals.
It was more of the same for the pair in the Semis where they posted an 8.4-second run, more than a half second better the Erich Rogers and Paden Bray who placed second. That run won them $5,200 each, but more importantly advanced them to Championship Sunday at the Daddy of em’ All.
The two saved their best for last, posting the fastest run of the rodeo at 7.5 seconds and taking home the title. In total, the two won over $26,000 over the rodeo.
“It’s hard to tell how fast you’re going to (in Cheyenne), you kind of get lost out of the arena and you don’t really know, so you kind of got to be aggressive,” Tryan said. “I told Erich Rogers, ‘thank you for reaching so far, that was the best head shot I’ve seen all week’ and that helped me be more aggressive.”
Clay Tryan is currently sitting in second place in the PRCA World Standings with over $110,000 earned on the season while Jade Corkill is in fifth place with just over $76,000 earned on the year.
Corkill/Tryan officially partnered together in the 2015 and 2017 season and teamed up once again in 2022 beginning in Reno following Clay Smith’s leg injury.
“I’ve roped with him now more than I’ve roped with anyone in my career, so it definitely feels comfortable,” Corkill said. “It’s good to know what’s going to happen in front of you before it happens.”
