Tie-Down Roper Shad Mayfield Wins Greeley Stampede for Second Year in a Row

Tie-down roper Shad Mayfield had the fastest time of the Greeley Stampede Short Go by almost a full second and made his time on three head fast enough to be the champion.

“I like to be able to set the pressure for the other guys and I had a calf that really went left. I talked to my dad before my run and he said ‘get that rope out of your hand and get it on’ and that’s what I had to do,” Mayfield said.

This winning run kicked off Mayfield’s Cowboy Christmas run with a bang and his confidence is ready for the next one.

“I actually won Greeley last year, so back to back and that feels even better. Just going into the fourth, get the adrenaline going right here and my horse is working good so a few more rodeos left,” he said.

Mayfield sits No. 2 in the PRCA World Standings.
