After earning nearly $15,000 in just one week, rising team roping stars Tyler Tryan and Nicky Northcott are starting their summer run with momentum. A victory at the Sisters Rodeo, along with key placings at the Eagle Rodeo and the Klamath River Round Up, has helped the duo cash checks at nearly every stop since the summer season began — and they have no plans of slowing down.

Tryan, the 2024 Resistol Rookie of the Year header, finished just shy of his first qualification to the National Finals Rodeo in 2025, earning $102,352 for the season. This year, he currently sits seventh in the world standings with $53,974 won.

With his sights set on a first NFR appearance, Tryan has teamed up with Northcott, the 2025 Resistol Rookie of the Year heeler, who also narrowly missed qualifying for his first NFR in 2025. The young duo has found success early and hopes to carry that momentum into Cowboy Christmas and beyond.

“It was really great to get the win in Sisters. Nicky had a great shot, and I was happy it all worked out well,” Tryan said. “We won about $15,000 in the last week alone, so it was a great start to the summer run.”

The victory was especially meaningful for Tryan, who had come close to winning the Sisters title in previous years but had yet to capture the championship. Now, with several seasons of professional rodeo experience under his belt, the Texan header is eager for the opportunities that lie ahead during rodeo’s busiest stretch of the season.

“I’m excited for all the big summer rodeos coming up — Reno, Greeley, St. Paul and Salinas,” Tryan said. “Those are the bucket-list rodeos you dream of winning.”

The son of three-time world champion Clay Tryan, Tryan is part of a new generation of rodeo athletes carrying on family legacies. Northcott shares a similar path, following in the footsteps of his father, world champion Steve Northcott.

As Cowboy Christmas approaches, the pair plans to focus on consistency and continue building on their strong start.

“We would have liked to win a little more during the winter, but we’re really excited to keep the positive momentum going into the summer,” Tryan said. “We’re going to take it one steer at a time and do our best to keep it rolling.”

As Cowboy Christmas kicks off at the Reno Rodeo, Tryan and Northcott will join thousands of rodeo athletes crisscrossing state lines in pursuit of top paydays and historic titles. Their goal is simple: keep winning, keep climbing the standings and earn a spot beneath the bright lights of Las Vegas this December.
