Known as the “Fastest Two Minutes in Sports,” the Kentucky Derby is traditionally held on the first Saturday in May – which this year is today.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Derby has been has been rescheduled for September 5, but in tribute to the century-old event, the Kentucky Derby is being replaced with another type of race – “the slowest two minutes in sports.”

The Kentucky Turtle Derby, sponsored by bourbon brand Old Forester, whose mint julep is the official drink of the Kentucky Derby, will take its place today, pitting eight elite turtles against each other in a race to the finish line.

Fans can watch the race on Old Forester’s YouTube channel at 7 PM ET.

“The first time the Kentucky Derby was postponed they raced turtles, so we thought it’d be fun to do something similar and give fans at home a little bit of entertainment this year...And who doesn’t love a good turtle race in May,” Campbell Brown, the company’s president, told CNN.
