Taylor Hanchey Takes Home Dodge City Roundup Breakaway Title

The breakaway roping the Dodge City Roundup Short Round got faster and faster with every girl. Taylor Hanchey was the last lady up and she stopped the clock at 2.8 to win herself the title.

With multiple girls roping sub 3.0, Hanchey knew she needed to be fast. With a calf that was more powerful than the rest she ended up taking an extra swing that paid off.

“It was a little last minute, I had a different game plan than that but it worked out,” she said.

Aside from drawing good in both rounds, Hanchey had her reliable equine partner PamPam with her in Kansas.

“She’s awesome. She’s 19 years young this year and she’s helped me a lot,” Hanchey said.

Hanchey is looking to go back to the National Finals Rodeo for the second time in the breakaway roping this year and currently sits No. 6 in WPRA World Standings.

Professional rodeo action consists of two types of competitions - roughstock events and timed events - and an all-around cowboy crown.
