Sue Smith’s Arena Record Breaking Run Secures Cheyenne Frontier Days Title

Barrel racer Sue Smith has made her return to rodeo and continues her winning streak as she claimed the Cheyenne Frontier Days Championship Title with an arena record breaking run of 16.89 seconds in the Final Round.

Smith advanced out of Quarterfinal No. 6 and made her presence known in Round 1 of the Semifinals as she finished out in first place after clocking a time of 17.37 seconds to her secure spot in the Short Go.

Since her last trip to the National Finals Rodeo in 2009, Smith has continued training some of the best horses in the industry including Centerfold, the mare she teamed up with to secure her most recent win in the great state of Wyoming, as well as the horse her good friend Andrea Busby secured the Cheyenne Title on just one year ago.

“For me to do this the following year on another horse I trained, I’m speechless and so proud,” Smith said.

Smith was not the only one breaking records on Championship Sunday as fellow cowgirl Summer Kosel turned in the fastest run in Cheyenne Frontier Days history with a 16.97-second run just minutes before Smith captured this monumental win.

Smith’s earnings continue to grow rapidly as she pulled a check for just under $10,500 in the Final Round, bringing her total money in Cheyenne to $22,259.
