Cole Franks matched up with Harper and Morgan’s Apollo to win the bareback riding in Deadwood at the Days of ’76 with 88 points. Apollo made Franks work for every point and it all paid off for the No. 10 cowboy in the world.
“You just really over emphasize lifting on your riggin and tucking your chin, just try to stay under everything and try not to let them get you. But he about got me a couple times, it was dang sure a fist fight,” Franks said.
Franks’ 88-point ride held strong through two more performances in Deadwood and after an injury during the Cheyenne Frontier Days Short Go, Franks’ has reported that he is out for 20 days with a torn up hand but he will be back.
