Justin Shaffer and Trell Etbauer Split Steer Wrestling Title in Cheyenne

Trell Etbauer and Justin Shaffer split the title in Cheyenne after posting 5.4-second runs. Etbauer knew he would have to push the envelope to get a win, and thought he may have been too quick out of the box.

“I knew I had a good steer. I knew in order to be able to win I had to max the start out and kind of thought I broke it when I left there, but nobody hollered I was out, but luckily it worked out.”

Trell is adding to the Etbauer legacy in Cheyenne, with his family claiming several titles.

“It was quite the experience (as a kid), I remember being back there behind the bucking shoots watching my dad and uncles. I remember I couldn’t wait to ride in this arena... I have always loved this rodeo and arena I can’t wait to come back.”

Shaffer, the last cowboy of the event, knew what he had to do to win the rodeo and while the win is already special, there was a little added motivation for Shaffer.

“That one goes to my little girl, Abilene Marie, it is her birthday today. She called me this morning and said, ‘daddy if you win it will you give me a shoutout,’ so that one is for her.”
