Zeke Thurston has been going to The Calgary Stampede since he was a child, he’s won it three times and in the 2022 edition, he won the first three rounds of the saddle bronc riding.
Thurston won $16,500 over four performances of Pool A competition and the next closest cowboy was No. 1 ranked Sage Newman with $9,000. With 89.5 points in Round 1 and 89 in Round 3, Thurston has the two highest marked saddle bronc rides of the rodeo. All four of his rides were 83 or better.
Thurston has gotten to share this year’s experience with his family. After his Round 1 win, he tipped his hat to them during his victory lap.
“Motor was running, we were ready to get it started, I knew I had a good horse, that horse loves outdoor arenas and that sucker bucked today,” he said after Round 1. “Probably my greatest memories with my family out at a rodeo from the time I was growing up were here at Calgary Stampede.”
