Three-time PRCA Bareback Riding World Champion Tim O’Connell won more than $20,000 between June 28 and July 4 to be named The Cowboy Channel’s Roughstock Athlete of the Week.
O’Connell’s Cowboy Christmas started with two Go-Round wins. On June 28, he was 87.5 points aboard Championship Pro Rodeo’s Boom Boom Girl and that score was good enough to earn him first place at the World’s Oldest Rodeo in Prescott, Arizona. O’Connell was given a whopping 47.5 point contestant score on that ride and banked more than $6,500.
Two days later, he returned to the Greeley Stampede (Colorado) for the Short Round of the rodeo that began on June 25. He won it with an 88.5 point ride on Beutler & Son Rodeo’s Black Kat and ended up fourth overall.
Following Greeley, O’Connell hit the road for a classic Fourth of July weekend - four rodeos in four days in three different states. In those four rodeos, O’Connell notched three Top 3 finishes on three rides of 85.5 points or more, all of which earned him $3,900 or more.
From June 28 to July 4, O’Connell was 6-of-6 with an average score of 86.3 points. He moved from No. 5 to No. 3 in the PRCA World Standings.
