Andrew Ward and Buddy Hawkins were the last team out in the team roping of the Greeley Stampede Short Go. The duo won the first round with a 4.7 and the Short Go with a 5.0 second run while their three head average totaled 15.8 seconds earning them another championship title.
It was a windy and rainy night in Greeley but Ward said they practice for every condition and although it wasn’t terrible, you could feel the wind and the sprinkles in the arena.
Both Ward and Hawkins are sitting No. 3 in the World Standings and Greeley’s payout will help keep them towards the top of the board.
“Well it’s probably no secret that we all love to rope but we’ve all got steers and horses at home and we could sleep in our own beds every night so we’re truly out here for the dollars, for that pot of gold in the yellow arena at the end of the rainbow and so it means everything,” Hawkins said.
He said it is not why they do it but it helps them keep going.
