WPRA Barrel Racing Standings Update: Dona Kay Rule Moves into Top 3 After San Angelo Win

The barrel race standings had some moves last week from some big names. Jordon Briggs and Hailey Kinsel have consistently stayed at the top of the board throughout the winter runs while only hitting the bigger, indoor rodeos. Briggs is coming off of her first World Title and Kinsel is switching it up and bringing new horsepower with her on the road.

The top five is completed with Dona Kay Rule, Wenda Johnson and Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi. The winter run has wrapped up, Clovis Rodeo is underway and the summer run is just around the corner. Here is a look at the current top 20 barrel racers.

1. Jordon Briggs, $93,895

Briggs and Rollo had a picture perfect season in 2021 that ended with a Gold Buckle. The duo is carrying that momentum into 2022 and their winter run was close to flawless. The tolar, Texas cowgirl has only ran at nine rodeos so far and racked up enough money to be in the No. 1 hole by $30,000. Briggs took home a big win from Rodeo Houston but she has had success at San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo along with the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

2. Hailey Kinsel, $64,894

Kinsel and Sister have remained at the top of their game. The three-time World Champion has also brought out some horsepower that we are not used to seeing her on. She had another palomino mare, Jules and a mare named Addy in her trailer this winter. Sister is a fan favorite but it will be fun to see if Kinsel breaks out on a different horse at some point over the summer.

3. Dona Kay Rule, $56,119

Rule and Valor’s most recent win came in from San Angelo rodeo when the team dominated in the Final Round running the only sub 14 second run of the rodeo. Before that, Rule’s 2022 season consisted of pulling checks in every round of Rodeo Houston, all but on eround of San Antonio and in two rounds of the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo.

4. Wenda Johnson, $51,416

Johnson and Mac set the world on fire inside Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. They broke the arena record in Round One when they came back and broke it their own record again in the Final Round. Johnson and Mac won Reno Rodeo in 2021 and with if they set any kind of precedent for their 2022 season, a second consecutive title in Reno might be in the cards.

5. Brittany Pozzi Tonozzi, $45,790

Tonozzi’s string of horses is as tough as they come. At the National Western Stock Show and Rodeo, Tonozzi captured her fifth title in Denver aboard her mare, Birdie. Tonozzi’s mare Katniss made a comeback at the 2021 National Finals Rodeo and recently, she has had success on a horse that she calls Lefty. Tonozzi has been gunning for a third World Title and this year might be it.
