The Ocala Breeder’s Sale is set to take place March 15-16 in Florida.
The horse market has been thriving the past two years and this upcoming sale will kick off the spring sales in Ocala. It is their Two-Year-Olds in Training sale. They also have sales in April and June.
Tod Wojciechowski, Director of Sales for Ocala Breeders Sales Company, compared the Two-Year-Olds sale to the National Football League scouting combine.
“These are the young athletes, they get to perform on the racetrack, buyers get to see how these horses move, how they train and make their purchasing decisions based on that, as well as what they see at the barn and what they look like physically” Wojciechowski said.
Florida is home to the vast majority of young racehorses when they are getting their start. The weather allows few days to go by as missed opportunities for those horses to get worked and master their skills as race horses.
Wojciechowski also points out how close the racing and rodeo worlds are. Plenty of rodeo horses were once track racers and plenty of rodeo cowboys and cowgirls have backgrounds and ties to racing. The horse industry goes full circle in every aspect. Momentum in the horse industry is not expected to slow down.
