The third of five brackets has finished in San Antonio, meaning more than half of the Semifinal field is now set.
In bareback riding, Garrett Shadbolt was the top cowboy. He placed in all three performances and won Rounds 1 and 3. The other two roughstock events were won by the same cowboy, Stetson Wright, the three-time All-Around World Champion won $6,250 in saddle bronc riding and $6,000 in bull riding. He also set a new arena record in the bronc riding on Tuesday with 92 points. That same night, he was also the bull riding champion.
“To win a round here at San Antone, it’s awesome,” Wright said Tuesday night. “To do it twice in one night, that’s just, not many guys have ever had that feeling and it’s pretty awesome. I just love it.”
The highest money earner in the timed events was J.D. Struxness, who won the steer wrestling with $5,750. Other timed event winners in Bracket 3 were Lightning Aguilera/Jonathon Torres in team roping with $5,000, Riley Pruitt in tie-down roping with $4,500 and Dona Kay Rule in barrel racing with $5,000, she won two consecutive performances to close out Bracket 3.
“I got pretty choked up (after hearing my time), that was pretty exciting,” Rule said after her 13.83 second run Wednesday night.
The Top 4 competitors in each event advanced to the Semifinals of the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo which are Feb. 24 and 25 on The Cowboy Channel and The Cowboy Channel+ App.
