Tyler Waguespack wins third PRCA Steer Wrestling Gold Buckle since 2016

Tyler Waguespack sealed his third Gold Buckle of his career with a 4.2-second run in Round 10 of the Wrangler NFR on Saturday.

Waguespack won more than $289,000 in 2021 and had a lead of more than $40,000 on second-place Will Lummus by season’s end.

“It feels awesome (to be a three-time World Champion), the good lord blessed me throughout the week with great steers to run,” he said. “I had the support of my family and friends, I mean it was just great.”

After breaking the barrier in Round 2, Waguespack was able to climb all the way back to No. 2 in the Average by the end of the NFR and he placed in nine of 10 rounds overall. Every clean run he had, he was 4.5 seconds or faster and he was in the 3-second range six times at the rodeo.

The Louisiana cowboy, who has now won three World Championships since 2016, placed in the Top 3 in each of the last five rounds, but you could really feel him coming after his 3.3-second run to win Round 7. He banked over $102,109 over the last four rounds.

“Usually, I hear someone say that I got out, but on that run, I didn’t hear anyone say anything,” he said, “and I knew I had a good start, but just had to look and make sure.”

Overall, he won about $213,000 at the NFR after entering No. 6 in the world, more than $40,000 behind Jacob Talley.
