The 2021 Canadian Finals Rodeo Champions Have Been Crowned

The 47th Canadian Finals Rodeo was held this past week in its home of Red Deer, Alberta. There were eight Champions crowned after a short but good year for Canadian professional rodeo.

Clint Laye, of Cadogan, Alberta, took home the title in the Bareback Riding. After kicking his week off with an 87.25-point ride to get the round win, Laye carried that momentum through the week to be your Champion.

In the Steer Wrestling it was Cody Cassidy that ended up your Champion. Cassidy ended up 21.7 seconds on five head after getting a no time in Round 4. He was up against some of the best Canada has to offer including his brother, Curtis Cassidy, but Cody came out the winner.

Clay Ullery and Tyce McLeod had the best week and are your Team Roping Champions and your aggregate winners. The duo placed second in three rounds, third in Round 5 and fourth in Round 6. Their fastest time of the week came in Round 4 when they roped a 4.4.

Your Saddle Bronc Champion is a name we will see at the Wrangler National Finals and winning the CFR was the perfect way to lead into Las Vegas. Zeke Thurston had the saddle bronc won before the final performance began, but he went on to make a 85.5 point ride in Round 6 to bring it home.

Riley Warren, of Sundre, Alberta, is the Tie-Down Roping Champion and your aggregate winner by more than two seconds, Warren laid down his fastest time of the week in Round 3 with 8.0 seconds to win the go-round. He ended up 54.8 seconds on six head.

Lancome, Alberta cowgirl, Justine Elliott took home the Barrel Racing Championship title. She ended up first in the aggregate as well. Elliott and her horse, Blondy, placed in the top five in five out of six rounds to have an outstanding week.

Jared Parsonage, of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan, covered five bulls to be the Bull Riding Champion and aggregate winner. Parsonage made his highest marked ride of the week in Round 6 with 87.75 points.

History was made with the crowning of the first ever Breakaway Roping Champion. Kendal Pierson won all three rounds of the breakaway roping to take home the title. With a 6.3 on three head, she also had the fastest time of the rodeo in Round 3 with a 2.03 second run.

The CFR also crowned three novice Champions. Cruz McNulty won the Bareback Riding, Brodie Roessler won the Saddle Bronc and Kane Scott won the Junior Steer Riding.
