The Cody Stampede paid out close to $300,000 and that money was well-earned as every roughstock cowboy won with a score of 90 or better.
In the bull riding, it was Braden Richardson putting up the second-highest marked ride we’ve seen in the PRCA all season. He was 93 points on Frontier’s County Jail to finish. In order to win a check in the bull riding, you had to be 86 points or better in Cody.
In the bareback riding, it was Caleb Bennett leaving his mark on the rodeo by winning riding Gun Fire for 91.5 points to claim the title.
And finally, in saddle bronc riding, Wade Sundell went 90 on the final day of the rodeo to split the win with South Dakota’s Mitch Pollock. Like bull riding, it took a lot to earn some money in the saddle bronc as athletes needed to be at least 85 points to avoid leaving empty-handed.
There were some strong showings in the timed events as well. Two-time NFR qualifier Emily Miller-Beisel was 17.03 to win the barrel racing, edging out three-time World Champion Hailey Kinsel by two hundredths of a second to win more than $10,000.
In the tie-down roping, Tuf Cooper also earned a five-figure check by winning the rodeo with a time of 8.3 seconds. He was one tenth faster than Kyle Lucas and Blake Chauvin.
Finally, in team roping, it was Clay Tryan and Jake Long winning beating out a fast field with a run of 4 seconds flat. Long won the rodeo in 2016 with Luke Brown as his partner.
