“I didn’t practice to practice, I practiced to win.” – Steve Duhon
Steve Duhon was an athlete of all trades playing football, baseball and rodeoing. His football career took him to Louisiana State University where eventually his coach gave him an ultimatum. Duhon picked rodeo.
He came from a family of great bulldoggers giving him plenty to look up to while also having his idols Roy Duval and Larry Mayan to help guide him as well. The first time he went to the Thomas and Mack he threw his second steer in 3.0 seconds flat to win the round. The comradery of the steer wrestlers is always notable and for a while Steve Duhon, Ote Berry or John W. Jones would be at the top of the bull dogging winning the world. Duhon craved competition from the best of the best and he thrived off of new competition coming in every year trying to beat the big dogs.
In the early 90’s Duhon took almost two years off to go home and help his father recover from heart surgery. When his Dad finally got better he bought 20 steers and it was back to the practice pen for Duhon, his father and this go around, his nephew. Duhon would go on to win another world title.
Steve Duhon became a three time ProRodeo Cowboys Association World Champion Steer Wrestler and in 2003 was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame.
