WATCH: Tyler Wade and Trey Yates become team roping champions in Clovis

Tyler Wade and Trey Yates are 39.1 seconds on four head to become the 2021 Clovis Rodeo Team Roping Champions.

This year’s team roping was a muley roping which Wade and Yates saw as an advantage. The pair was 8.6 seconds in Round One, 11.8 seconds in Round Two, 8.5 seconds in Round Three and 10.2 in Round Four to come out on top of the average.

“Getting a good start is crucial, the angles of your loop are going to change a little bit to get the neck from the horns, but honestly, just getting a good start, good handle, and thanks to the Yates’ they got me a good horse to ride right now,” Tyler Wade said after the event.

“We’ve roped a lot of steers together and we’ve prepared for scenarios like this,” Yates added. “We were lucky to have a couple of good horses and Tyler did a great job.”
