The Working Ranch Cowboys Association is adding a youth event to its annual World Championship Ranch Rodeo in Amarillo in November.
“This is a dream the WCRA has had for several years,” the organization’s manager Leman Wall said. “I guess it was from a higher power, everything lined up and the board decided it was now time to get this event in place and we couldn’t be more excited.”
Wall said there have been a handful of youth ranch rodeos as developmental events in the past and he said members of the board were able to use those to test the rules and showcase how a championship could take place.
The events for the Youth World Championship Ranch Rodeo will include team sorting, branding, doctoring, trailer loading and a wild steer race.
The rodeo will be open to ages 16 and under.
“They won’t have to go compete against dad and the brother and those 47-year-old guys and gals, they’ll get to go in the pen and compete against people their own age.”
