Marcus Theriot is rodeo’s new Ironman.
With a time of 322.4 on 25 head across tie-down roping, steer wrestling, steer roping, heading and heeling, Theriot was the top cowboy of the 20 invited to the Cinch Timed Event Championship at the Lazy E Arena from March 11-13.
“It’s really hard to prepare because you have to be so mental,” he said. “You prepare the best you can.....This year I did not come to be average, I was set on first.”
Theriot made it count in the events he typically works by finishing No. 1 in the tie-down roping and steer wrestling average en route to his $100,000 prize.
Paul Tierney was second overall and third went to Seth Hall.
Other notable cowboys in the field were Clayton Hass, Erich Rogers, Haven Meged, Clay Smith, Taylor Santos and Justin Melvin.
