The Los Angeles City Council voted to draft an ordinance mimicking an ordinance in Pittsburgh that could put professional rodeo and other similar events out of business in the city of Los Angeles.
The ordinance would ban flanks, bucking straps, spurs, and many other rodeo tools that would effectively ban any rodeos, the Rose Bowl Parade, and other events.
PRCA Livestock Program & Government Relations Manager Scott Dorenkamp says nobody in the rodeo community was consulted.
Dorenkamp says the PRCA has a 99.9% safety rating over the last four years, meaning less than a fraction of a percentage of animals are injured at the rodeo. This includes pickup horses, bulls, bucking horses, flag horses, and grand entry horses.
