Chance Butterfield on how he qualified for the semi-finals of RFD-TV’s The American

For the third time in his career, Canadian steer wrestler Chance Butterfield has advanced to the semi-finals of RFD-TV’s The American.

Despite COVID-19 restrictions in Canada, he and four other bulldoggers from up north will be in Fort Worth after a two-header qualifier they put together in British Columbia.

“We managed to pool our resources together,” he said. “We had a heckuva jackpot, lots of good steers.”

Butterfield had to go through a lot to get here. In 2017, he almost lost his life breaking up a fight between two horses. Later that same year, he returned to compete at the Canadian Finals Rodeo.
