Chance Butterfield overcame an injury that almost cost him his life in the summer of 2017.

He got in between two horses having a fight during a firework show at a rodeo.

He says it has been a process from the beginning and the rehab never changed. The first day, his only goal was to simply stand on his own two feet.

Butterfield’s wife Kenda, who is a physiotherapist, put together some unique drills for him.

He said when he finally got to make a practice run again in October, it was the most nervous and excited he’d ever been to bulldog.

He returned in time to compete (through a lot of pain) at the Canadian Finals Rodeo in November of 2017 and has been rodeoing again ever since. After a qualifier in British Columbia, he is advancing to the semi-finals of RFD-TV’s The American for the third time in his career.
