The first man out in the Shootout ended up being the fastest in steer wrestling at The 2014 American. Hunter Cure was one of the last cowboys out in the Long Round and he stopped the clock at 4.14 seconds, knocking out Jule Hazen in the process.
Because he was fourth among those who qualified for the final round, he had to go first, knowing $100,000 possibly waited the other side of his run. Cure set the pace at 3.75 seconds and was not threatened by the other three bulldoggers.
“It’s all sudden death, so you better you have your hammer cocked and you better go fast,” he said. “Hats off to RFD-TV and Randy Bernard for the amazing job. They thought of every detail.”
Cure’s win at the inaugural American Rodeo was sandwiched between two Gold Buckles in 2013 and 2015.
