Popular cajun cowboy Steve Duhon didn’t sniff a check at the 1986 Wrangler NFR in the first four rounds, but in the fifth round everything changed.
Riding a horse named Jimmy, he threw one down in 3 seconds flat, won the round, set a record and got the momentum he needed to win his first World Championship.
Duhon, who played football at LSU, went on to win three Gold Buckles in a four year stretch. He also won the average at the NFR in 1987 and 1993.
Duhon was inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2003.
